Walt Disney Pictures bought the billboard located at Santa Monica/Westwood in Los Angeles for an entire year. Beginning in mid-December, the studio has been updating the location with new Tron Legacy advertisements,at the rate of one every month and a half. And it was revealed they will keep doing so up until the release of the film in December 2010. Today the third billboard in the series was release, which you can see in full after the jump. Since the billboards seem to be telling a story thus far, I’ve also included the first two billboard images below.

Billboard #3: NEW
We’ve been hearing for a while now that Disney executives are so excited about the upcoming sequel Tron: Legacy that they are planning to give it a big presence in the company’s theme parks. We’ve heard rumors of a Flynn’s Arcade in Tomorrowland, a revamp of the people movers and even a new Tron Legacy ride. These are just rumors, and I’m sure there might be more.
Disney Parks has revealed that the Monorail Trains are being skinned to advertise the new film. The art, as you can see in the above concept images, makes the mororail trains appear to be a lightcycle from the world of tron, complete with a trail of colored light. According to the report, the transformed trains will be visible on the Epcot monorail line as early as this month.

You might recall that late last year, Arianna Huffington (co-founder of the liberal news website The Huffington Post) published a few tweets claiming that she was shooting a part in a secret Wachowskis Brothers film, a movie about the Iraq War, from the perspective of the future. We wouldn’t have believed it but Huffington posted photos from the set, one of which features Any Wachowski and Wachowski brother turned sister Lana Wachowski. Was it possible that the Wachowskis have actually sneaked their next film into production without anyone noticing? Or is this just part of a short film, commercial, or test footage for a potential future project? No one had any idea, and nothing more has been learned about the project until today.
Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of the Howard Stern Show on Sirius/XM Satellite radio, the professional wrestler turned actor turned governor Jesse Ventura dropped word that he just got done filming a movie for the Wachowskis. When asked if he missed acting and would ever consider returning to the big screen, Ventura dropped the bomb shell:
“I just did one with the Wachowski brothers…”
And if you think this is strange, it gets a lot stranger. More details follow below.
Ventura explained that he didn’t know where this film is gonna end up, to which Stern asked “What is the film?” Ventura responded: “I don’t know…” Ventura revealed that they didn’t have a script, and the whole thing was done ad-lib/improv.
“Wait til you hear what they did. They brought me, and they brought Arianna Huffington in after me. Arianna was there, and they had her looking like cleopatra. What they did… Do you remember what John Travolta looked like in that horrible film Battlefield Earth? They put multicolored dreadlocks on me all the way to here. They gave me this crazy beard that was hanging down pointed, looked like Travolta, right? And they put a third eye in the middle of my forehead. Because what this is, is this is a hundred years in the future, and they wanted me to talk about the current war in Iraq and how I felt about it. And so I got to vent, looking like this maniac in this whole outfit.”
Ventura said he did his rant about Iraq and then he was questioned by Lana off camera, documentary style. Stern responded that he doesn’t “understand what this part is about”, to which Ventura quickly responded: “Neither do I!”
Anyone have any ideas or know anything more solid? We’ll keep you updated.
Erik Davis (of cinematical fame) e-mailed me in response to the previous posting asking if it could be Cloud Atlas, the Wachowskis-produced Tom Tykwer-directed adaptation of the postmodern novel by David Mitchell . But as far as I’ve heard, that film is still in the development stages and Tykwer just wrapped last week on a new feature called Drei (Three), so it is unlikely that he is back behind the camera so soon. Or maybe Tykwer is no longer involved?
You can check out more photos from the Huffington shoot in our previous post about the project.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I still haven’t seen the Academy Award-winning documentary The Cove despite all the huge acclaim and buzz (I hope to finally see it later this week). Louie Psihoyos‘ film follows a group of activists, led by renown dolphin trainer Ric O’Barry, who use state-of-the-art equipment to infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan “to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat to human health.”
Apparently during the film, the crew get the idea to have a friend at ILM to build them spy cameras to capture the act of the crime. But it is during that segment where we get a small cameo from another big screen villain: Prince Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters 2. You can see the screencapture from The Cove, along with a full photo of the Vigo the Carpathian painting after the jump. It haunts my dreams!

Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement are competing for a role in Men in Black 3.
This according to Bloody Disgusting. While they don’t know who the character is, the do have a name and that name is Yaz. To me, it sounds like an alien and not an agent, partly because it’s a full name and not a letter, partly because Cohen and Clement just scream extra-terrestrial to me. Previous rumors had Josh Brolin joining the cast, and a plot that would see Agent J time travelling and meeting a younger non-Tommy Lee Jones version of Agent K.
Forced to pick one of these new contenders, I’d go for Clement. Not only would I love to see him in something big and high profile like this, I’d also like to see Cohen off working on his own, more pointed, projects.

The trailer for Tron Legacy has appeared online via a viral puzzle campaign that jumps off from the multi-city scavenger hunt launched a couple weeks ago. You can check out the Flynn Lives viral site if you like, but for those who just want the very pretty computerized goods, you can skip right to the good stuff, after the break.
The trailer opens as Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) tells Sam Flynn (Garret Hedlund) that he unexpectedly heard a signal from Sam’s father, Kevin (Jeff Bridges). That leads to Sam poking around the old Flynn’s Arcade, where he finds evidence that his father has been doing some sort of mysterious work. This work could “change everything…science, medicine, religion.” Within a secret back room (accessed through a Tron machine, just like the light cycle gallery at Comic Con) Sam finds a gateway to a new digital world.
The footage looked great when I saw it in 3D in front of Alice, but I love being able to go frame by frame through the digital world in HD. The stuff Joseph Kosinski and crew have come up with looks beautiful. Just compare this to the proof of concept / VFX test footage from Comic Con. The designs are far more interesting, and the world looks just as I would have liked to see it. Good stuff all around. (And, yeah, I’ll say it: fantastic eye candy shot of Olivia Wilde, too.)
And that Daft Punk tune on the soundtrack fits perfectly. I can see this track being like the new version of the Requiem for a Dream music, and appearing in endless trailers in years to come. Very much looking forward to hearing the entire score.

How awesome was the movie trailer for Tron: Legacy? I know I’ve watched it at least five times now, and that doesn’t count the two times I saw it in 3D at the Tron Trailer Premiere Event a week ago. But even then, I haven’t seen everything. Especially in the world of Tron, the quick cuts and fast action blast across the screen. For example, did you catch Michael Sheen? He was the guy with white hair looking like David Bowie. And thats probably not the only thing you missed. There is certainly a lot of cool visuals which are worth pressing the pause button to examine at length. Check out all 70 images, after the jump. Teefury’s t-shirt of the day is a great LOST parody created by Spanish artist Naolito titled “Desmond’s Replacement”. Anyone who watches the television series Lost will understand the reference. And what is a Lost reference without a Polar Bear?
The good news is that the tee is available for only $9 plus shipping. The bad news is that the tee will only be available today (March 9th 2010). At midnight eastern time, it will disappear forever. So get it while you still can.

After going down well at Sitges and Sundance, Vincenzo Natali’s Splice was picked up for distribution by Warner Bros. through their Dark Castle label. They’ve announced a 4th June release, which simply can’t come soon enough. But what’s this? A fly in the ointment?
According to Fangoria, Natali is heading back to the edit room to make some alterations to the film. He says:
You’re going to see a slightly nipped-and-tucked version. I’m actually going into the editing room next week, and if they’re true to their word, it’s just going to be cosmetic… There are also a few things I’m changing after seeing the film with an audience. I believe what will come out of it will be a new and improved cut, but in essence, it’ll be the same film.
What changes will he make? I made my own enquiries and confirmed that the only tweaks will come in “tightening up the ending”. Note: that’s tightening up, not overthrowing and replacing. The only question remains how many minutes are we calling the ending here? The last five? Ten? Twenty?
